Q. Why do I keep getting an error message when I try to download an OverDrive eBook to Adobe Digital Editions on my computer?

When I try to download an OverDrive eBook to Adobe Digital Editions, I get an error message saying something about IO error. What's happening?

Answer

This may be one of a few different problems.  Try these steps to correct it:

  1. Upgrade to a newer version of Adobe Digital Editions (ADE). The Mac and Windows versions are here: http://www.adobe.com/solutions/ebook/digital-editions.html

  2. Try downloading the book again. If it doesn’t work, de-authorize and authorize Adobe Digital Editions:

               a. Open ADE and click on Help. Choose “Erase Authorization”

               b. You will be prompted to put in the password for the Adobe ID with which ADE has been authorized. If you cannot remember it, reset the password using the option on the screen. Follow instruction to de-authorize.

               c. Go back to the Help tab and choose “Authorize Computer”

               d. Reauthorize your computer with your Adobe ID. Use the same one you used before. Click on "Authorize".

               e. Try downloading the book again.   NOTE:  If you are unable to de-authorize ADE, revert to ADE version 3.0—here: http://www.adobe.com/support/digitaleditions/downloads.html

               f.  try downloading the book again.

You are only allowed three attempted downloads on OverDrive.  If you exhaust your downloads and are directed to contact the library, call us at 1-408-808-2100 and we will reset your downloads.
