Q. What should I do if I have lost a San Jose Public Library book or item?


If the item is renewable, renew it so late fines do not accrue.  This will give you time to look for the item.

If you still cannot find the item and you are sure the item is lost, please contact your local library and speak to a staff person. You will be responsible for paying for the lost item plus a $10 processing fee per item.  You can refer to our Fines & Fees schedule for more information.

We also accept replacements for lost books only; for more information please read about our Book Replacement Program.

Please note that once a lost item has been paid for, we do not issue refunds should the customer happen to find the item in question.

  1. This does not work because to renew at my local library you have to have the book with you
