What is Partners in Reading?

Answer

Partners in Reading (PAR) is the English-based adult literacy program of the San José Public Library. Adults who need to build basic reading, writing, and technology skills are matched with trained volunteer tutors who instruct them one to one or in small classes. They must commit to meeting at least 90 minutes twice a week for at least six months.

Partners in Reading also manages an online high school diploma program called Career Online High School, leads a college readiness program for low-income high school students, and offers 12-week English classes to build basic conversation skills.
