Q. What is adult literacy?

Adult literacy is the ability to use reading, writing, and technology skills to gain information needed to achieve life goals and develop one’s knowledge and potential. Literacy is an important factor in human development. Partners in Reading trains volunteer tutors to provide literacy tutoring to adults who want to build their basic skills. Once they are matched, they meet twice a week at a San José Public Library location for 90 minutes for at least six months. Volunteers are required to pass a fingerprint clearance before volunteering with the library.
